Product feature: EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission
Winner of the Institute of Physics’ Business Innovation Award in 2018, EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission is our high performance solar cover material with GeoBubble™ technology. This swimming pool cover material was designed to maximise solar gains to your pool whilst filtering simultaneously preventing algae growth. A patented EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission cover on your pool could increase water temperature by as much at 7°C without the need for external heating.
Award Winning Technology
EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission was developed in collaboration with the University of Surrey.
The clear top surface contains a UV stabiliser package selected to give each EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission cover an extensive 8+ year expected lifespan, whilst still allowing high transmission of solar radiation to the water below.
The midnight blue bubble layer acts as a selective filter, preventing transmission of those wavelengths of light which facilitate photosynthesis, resulting in a warmer, algae free pool.
Faster Spring Start Up
Thanks to its ability to significantly reduce the growth of algae, EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission makes an excellent winter cover. Simply having an EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission cover on your pool during the winter months can significantly reduce the time and money spent on reopening your pool in the spring. We found that we could have a pool opened up and ready to swim in within 24 hours where an EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission cover had been used.

How Does it Compare?
The performance of an EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission cover was evaluated at our bespoke testing facility. A sample of pool temperature data can be seen in the graph for the 21 days between 21st July and 12th August 2020. The lines represent the average water temperature of the test pools, with one pool left uncovered, and the other covered with the patented EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission material and monitored for 3 weeks.
The graph shows excellently how covering your pool with an EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission cover can raise the temperature of your pool water without the need for additional heating.
Our testing showed that over the duration of the test, the pool covered with EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission was 5°C warmer on average than the pool that was left uncovered.
EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission has been designed to transmit larger portions of the IR spectrum than our standard products, resulting in more solar energy reaching the water below to heat your pool. In addition to this, EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission acts as a filter to incoming visible light and does not allow through those wavelengths of light responsible for algae growth.
Reduce Chemical Treatment and Filtration Costs
Having an EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission cover on your pool can significantly reduce the chemical and filtrations costs associated with keeping your pool water in good balance.
By actively blocking out the light many algae require to grow, pools covered with EnergyGuard™ Selective Transmission will require less filtration time, and consume less chlorine than pools covered with conventional transmission pool covers.
Customer testimonial
“I found the quality of the material was excellent. Because of the weather that we’ve been having recently, August 2020, the cover came into its own within a day or so. During one of the hotter days, the water was hot, so the pool temperature had increased to about 40+ deg C. So bath warm. Previous hot days with our old cover only increased the temperature to about 17-18 deg C. The water was so warm, it even gave my wife the excuse to go for a dip!”
